4large apples, thinly sliced(Bramleys work well for strudel)
2tbsbreadcrumbs
icing sugar(as much as you like, depending on how sharp your apples are)
vanilla sugar or vanilla pods
cinnamon
a handful of sultanas or raisins
a knob of butter, melted
1egg
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180 ºC, gas mark 4 (fan 170 ºC).
Divide the puff pastry into two and roll out into two rectangles (approx. 20 x 30 cm each).
Brush the rolled out pastry sheets with melted butter and sprinkle some breadcrumbs all over (they will soak up juice from the apples if they are extra juicy).
Cover the pastry with the sliced apples (leave about 2 cm on all sides), sprinkle with icing sugar, cinnamon, vanilla sugar, sultanas and finish off with a few drops of melted butter and more breadcrumbs.
Roll it up and fold in the ends. Brush with beaten egg and put in the oven.
Bake for about 40 minutes until golden brown.
Dust with icing sugar. Serve warm with some cream or ice cream, or cold later. Delicious!
